The Music Collective's Alec Puro Scores At Sundance
Alec Puro has created original scores for two feature films premiering at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival: “Homework” and "Higher Ground.”
Sundance is the largest independent cinema festival in the United States. This year 16 films were selected from 1,102 submissions for the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Each is a world premiere. Composer Alec Puro scored two of these films. Bravo!

"Homework"
“Homework” features Empire Award-winning Freddie Highmore (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “August Rush”) and Emma Roberts (“Nancy Drew,” “Blow”). George (Highmore) is a rebellious New York high school student with nothing to aspire to until he develops an unlikely romance with a girl (Roberts) he has loved from afar. “Homework” is written and directed by Gavin Wiesen.

"Higher Ground"
“Higher Ground” marks the directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actress Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air”). The film is based on Carolyn S. Briggs’s memoir, This Dark World, which depicts a disheartened young mother’s innocent conversion to an apocalyptic Fundamentalist faith and her battle to relinquish it.

Series Spotlight - "Lockup" MSNBC
“Lockup,” an MSNBC original production, is a prison documentary series produced by 44 Blue Productions. Since 2007 The Music Collective has created the music score for this successful franchise that has spawned “Lockup Raw,” “Lockup Extended Stay,” and “Lockup World Tour.” 44 Blue Productions goes deep inside the most notorious prisons in The United States to find provocative stories about the inmates who reside there. 44 Blue will often spend up to four months at one prison. Lockup also shows the human side of prison life, not only of the inmates, but the prison guards and staff as well.
Rasha Drachkovitch is Executive Producer for 44 Blue and Jim Cirigliano is Supervising Producer for the series. New episodes premiere every Saturday, at 10 p.m. EST on MSNBC.

Dennis McCarthy Receives Prestigious Golden Note Award
For the past three years The Music Collective has been working on a regular basis with composer Dennis McCarthy. Dennis, the recent recipient of ASCAP’s prestigious Golden Note Award, has had a successful career for more than three decades, scoring some of the entertainment industry’s most beloved television series and films. From his breakthrough start with Glen Campbell, to his compositions for Star Trek, MacGyver, and Dynasty, Dennis McCarthy is always at the top of his craft.
Our relationship with Dennis started off with a simple conversation, “Do you want to write music with us?” Dennis responded with his enthusiastic signature “Yo!” And it’s been “Go” ever since. “Working with Dennis McCarthy has been a wonderfully creative experience,” says The Music Collective’s Vice President of production Ryan Neill. He has responded to every request, ridiculous or not, with a resounding yes. “When do you need it? How about in fifteen minutes?” is the usual conversation with this master of “speed composing.” Don’t let his quickness fool you; quality and careful thought is always there. “He’s just fast,” says Neill.

Dennis McCarthy says of The Music Collective, “I have truly enjoyed my relationship with the great folks at AECG; consummate pros in every respect! For me, the opportunity to write anything and everything from emotional to orchestral to holiday fare to jazz and hip-hop is a tremendous luxury. Truly the best working and creating environment I’ve experienced!” A huge “Yo!” to The Music Collective.
